Continuity Camera
At last week's WWDC Apple introduced the Continuity Camera as a feature of macOS Ventura. When it comes out, you can use your iPhone as a wireless webcam. Apple software engineer Karen Xing spent some time explaining how the new Continuity Camera feature for macOS Ventura will actually work.
Some highlights from the video
macOS will detect your iPhone as a camera and microphone, period, so every camera app should work.
It works also wired. USB cables are fine if you’re worried about interference or your iPhone staying charged.
You can turn your iPhone to any orientation
Apps can let your Mac capture photos and video from your iPhone
Unfortunately, none of this works with those old iPhones you’ve got sitting in a drawer. Continuity Camera requires iOS 16 in addition to macOS 13, Xing revealed — and unfortunately, the iPhone 6S, 7, and first-gen iPhone SE and earlier won’t be getting the iOS 16 software update.
Alternative applications you can use now, are
Camo Access the incredible cameras on your phone with Camo and get powerful effects and adjustments for Zoom, Meet, and more. For Mac and PC.
Detail lets you connect your iPhone, iPad, or any other external camera to your Mac. And it works with your built-in webcam too. You can use Detail with any video platform like Zoom, Meet, Twitch, and Youtube Live.
Want to use your iPhone for pre-recording?
Connect your phone to your Mac with a USB cable
Open Quicktime
Select New Movie Recording.
Toggle the button next to record and select iPhone. Now you are ready to record in high quality.
