Welcome to Issue 198.

Early last week, Nina Stössinger a typeface designer at Frere-Jones Type, asked Monotype in a tweet to bring back the online archive of the legendary TYPO Berlin conference after taking over FontShop. Luckily Monotype passed the TYPO archive over to an organization for preservation. This is great news, because of the long and rich history of the conference. TYPO Berlin premiered in 1995 and grow out to be one of the most important graphic design and typography conferences in the world. Showcasing upcoming design trends, giving the stage to young and seasoned (type)designers, and being the annual melting pot for designers from around the world.

TYPO Berlin's YouTube channel is still active. You can find their short clips and full lectures on type, design, and creative life.

The last TYPO Berlin was in 2018, currently, there isn't a conference on TYPO's scale. ~1500 participants, more than 60 speakers lecturing on up to 3 stages, with workshops, and panels for 3 days in one venue.

Conferences that currently cover the same topics are: beyond tellerrand, Typographics, Typelab, and TypeCon.
