Critical Futures Talks: a new event and podcast series by the Master in Design for Responsible AI

The Master in Design for Responsible AI by Elisava, Barcelona School of Design and Engineering and IAM is organizing Critical Futures Talks, a new series of hybrid events, interviews, and a podcast featuring a range of eclectic perspectives from faculty, current program participants, and special guests on the intersection of Responsible AI, media, and design in a state of climate emergency. The Critical Futures Talks are open to the public, both as free in-person events in Barcelona, at the Aleix Carrió Room in Elisava, and online via livestream.

Ukraine

It’s 2 years since the start of the war in Ukraine. Last September I attended, Festival of Eastern European Design in Warsaw a recurring theme throughout the festival. was how to help the Ukrainian people, especially their creative community. There was one concrete way to help the Ukrainian people is to donate money directly to United24. This is the official fundraising platform for Ukraine. Another way to help is to organize workshops with Ukrainian refugees in your city or ask them to participate in events you are organizing to raise awareness and money. Invite artists/designers for residencies. Ukrainian organizations such as 4Block and Pictoric have ready-made poster campaigns that you can use to raise additional awareness in your community. As Olexander Tregub of Projector Institute pointed out, there are many UX designers, programmers, illustrators, motion designers, and other creatives looking for work. They would love to work with Western, Asian, or Latin American companies and brands. If you are hiring, contact one of the organizations listed. They can help you connect with the right people, Telegram channels, or Behance pages. ✌️

Animation and Motion Design Conferences to attend in 2024

Animation and Motion Design are closely related, but very different. Animation is an umbrella term for the whole field of moving images, including everything from cartoons to claymation. Motion design focuses on adding movement to graphic elements to support the storytelling aspect of a film title, a voiceover, or a gesture in a mobile app. In essence, motion design is animated graphic design.

What the selected festivals have in common is that they represent a crossover between the fields. They showcase the process behind blockbuster films to indie animation productions and everything in between.

All programmes are highly curated. They offer great value through inspiration, workshops, learning experiences and plenty of networking opportunities to energise your work and bring your ideas to life.
